SITUATION
Emiles Fish and Chips is a well known business set within the busy Barbican Residential area of East Looe. The business is located at the end of a terrace of local businesses that include a Londis Convenience store, A Bakers, Estate Agents and Financial Services, there is also a busy local garage at the other end. Emiles has been trading around this area of Cornwall for over forty years.
The parish of Looe, whose name means 'pool or inlet' is on the south coast of Cornwall. The original village or settlement was known as Shutta and this name still survives to this day but is now part of Looe. There are actually two towns, East Looe and West Looe divided by the estuary of the Looe River and connected by a nine arch bridge rebuilt in 1853 due to the lack of maintenance as neither east or west would accept responsibility for the upkeep. It is easy to see why people chose to settle here. With the narrow entrance to the harbour and high sides that surround the valley it would have been quite an easy place to defend in times of piracy, but today people come more for the picturesque tranquility. Each side of the river had its own main church. East Looe church was dedicated to St Mary. West Looe church was dedicated to St Nicholas. Although I have visited many Cornish coastal villages I have yet to find one with such an ideal back drop. The Looe valley rail line "a single track railway" which runs between Liskeard & Looe. It is well worth the round trip and a good excuse to leave the car behind and spend time taking in the market town of Liskeard.
THE PROPERTY
Emiles is a prominent building situated on the end of a terrace in the Barbican. The property is built of brick under a slate roof. The business has been well managed and looked after and so is in very good condition throughout.
