SITUATION
The Yarcombe Inn is set in the beautiful village of Yarcombe, not far from the A303 / A30 turnoff. Yarcombe is a pretty Devon village nestling in the spectacular Yarty Valley with its steep rolling meadows and ancient woods on the south edge of the Blackdown Hills. The village centre is small with its historical Norman church, The Yarcombe Inn with monastical roots, an hotel and cluster of houses, but its many outlying farms and hamlets make Yarcombe a large parish with a very active community. We can boast of several music and singing groups, award winning amateur dramatics, , rural crafts etc, 9 skittle teams, WI, village hall activities, flower and garden shows. It is an extremely friendly place and to quote a newcomer to the village '...this is the friendliest village I've ever known'.
Yarcombe is a working village with farming and agricultural support services, all important for its way of life and employment. There are other small business' in the community covering accommodation and food, building and joinery, motor services, furniture making, and rural crafts.
Historically we have some claim to fame. Earl Harold (as of King) briefly owned the manor, prior to his demise at the Battle of Hastings, and much later in Elizabethan times the ownership passed to Francis Drake. Today one of his ancestors remains squire of Yarcombe. There was also infamy in the time of the Hundred Years war when money was sent from Yarcombe by its French owner to the armies of France to fight the English.
THE PROPERTY
The Yarcombe Inn is a thatched property under stone and is believed to date from the 14th Century. The Inn has a very good road frontage and can be seen from a distance. The property has parking at the front and a very handy village car park just 50 yards away. The two letting rooms are currently not used but in the past have shown to let for approx £50 per night. The Inn has slates floors and beams to the main bar and wooden flooring throughout the dining / meeting room. The first floor skittles alley is kept busy through the winter months and is often used during the summer. The pub has a nice attractive courtyard style seating area with lovely views out over the surrounding Yarty Valley.
